The therapeutic effects of vibration massage

This information pack will share with you exactly what the vibrations from vibration massagers do.

The scientifically proven effects of vibration massage

Therapeutic effects

Just like ultrasound (vibrations at a different frequency) the vibrations from a vibration massager penetrate deeply into your muscles, including the hard to get at spots. Scientists have found that these vibrations have the effects shown in this diagram. For more info please see. The scientifically proven effects of vibration massage- with clinical applications .

The effects depend on the frequency

The therapeutic effects of the vibration depends on the frequency. The optimum effects are from 40-60 Hz (cycles per second), so it is best to run the massager at his speed. If outside this range:

  • lower speeds have little therapeutic effect
  • higher speeds can have adverse effects (for example 100 Hz will cause muscle to tighten rather than relax).

General Purpose Massager setting

For our General Purpose Massager this is about 70-100% of full speed, with the optimum being 85-90%.

Massage gun settings

Massage guns have hard heads and powerful ones drive them in up to 16mm. Doing that about 50 times a second would cause a lot of damage so powerful massage guns are limited to about 40, but even that is way to fast, as a survey of professionals found that most used them on “slow” or “medium”. Therefore massage guns can only safely be used at the frequencies that have little therapeutic effect.
